Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture

The competition: Christian Bale’s troubled former fighter (The Fighter), Michael Douglas’ Wall Street savant (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), Andrew Garfield’s patsy partner (The Social Network), Jeremy Renner’s loose cannon buddy (The Town), and Geoffrey Rush’s eccentric speech therapist (The King's Speech).

For your information: This is the seventh Globe nomination for Douglas, whose lone win (aside from the Cecil B. DeMille Award seven years ago) was for playing Gordon Gekko in the first “Wall Street” film. This is Rush’s fifth career Globe nod. He won once for film (“Shine”) and once for TV (“The Life and Death of Peter Sellers”). This is the first nomination for Bale, Garfield, and Renner.

Who should win: Bale or Rush

Who will win: Unless his bad reputation proves to be too problematic for voters, it’s going to be Bale.
