Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture

The competition: Kenneth Branagh’s Laurence Olivier (My Week with Marilyn), Albert Brooks’ ruthless mobster (Drive), Jonah Hill’s numbers geek (Moneyball), Viggo Mortensen’s Sigmund Freud (A Dangerous Method), and Christopher Plummer’s newly out senior citizen (Beginners).

For your information: Both Plummer and Mortensen have one previous film nomination. This is Branagh’s first film nomination, though he has received three TV bids in the past. Brooks and Hill are first-time nominees.

Who should win: I loved Plummer’s performance, but Mortensen, Branagh, and Hill were all terrific as well.

Who will win: I think this goes to Plummer.
