SAG Nominees: Best Actor in a Leading Role

My predictions: 4/5, missing Gyllenhaal
Who’s missing: David Oyelowo (Selma), Bradley Cooper (American Sniper)

I was just reading yesterday that SAG voters may not have had the opportunity to see “Selma,” which makes Oyelowo’s snub understandable. What’s much more significant, however, is who got in in his place, and that’s Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) for a film that has been creeping along throughout all the critics’ awards that have been announced to have a much bigger awards presence than I might have expected. Now I definitely need to make sure I see it this Sunday, as was already my plan! Steve Carell (Foxcatcher) made the cut, which wasn’t a sure thing, and he’s joining the three locks in this category, Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Michael Keaton (Birdman), and Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything), all great performances.

Who could win? Who knows? Carell, Cumberbatch, Keaton, Redmayne? My bet at the moment is Redmayne.
