SAG Nominees: Best Actor in a Leading Role

My predictions: 4/5, picking Phoenix over Cooper
Who’s missing: Joaquin Phoenix (The Master), Anthony Hopkins (Hitchcock)

Nothing too surprising here other than the fact that Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) managed to break through with a nomination and eclipse Phoenix, who is likely not too popular with his fellow actors. Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables) also scored his first nod, and the enthusiasm for his film suggests he’ll be able to ride it all the way to the Oscars. Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln) has won this award twice before, and he’s joined by fellow past nominees John Hawkes (The Sessions) and Denzel Washington (Flight). Nothing too major here to shake up the Oscar race.

Who could win? I think it’s going to be Day-Lewis all through awards season.
