Golden Globe Musings: Best Animated Feature Film

Golden Globe nominations for this year will be announced in just a few weeks, so here’s a survey of the contenders and the most likely predictions at this time. Weigh in with your thoughts, and let me know if I’ve left off anything important. A reminder that the Globes are wildly unpredictable and that it is still a bit early to gauge the reception or awards potential of a number of the so-called “contenders” at this point.

Last year’s nominees:
Big Hero 6
The Book of Life
The Boxtrolls
How to Train Your Dragon 2
The Lego Movie

I feel woefully unprepared for this category this year since the only film I’ve seen that’s eligible is sure thing and eventual winner Inside Out. I’m dubious about R-rated Anomalisa making the cut, though animated films for adults have been recognized before. Other stronger contenders include The Good Dinosaur, The Peanuts Movie, Minions, and Shaun the Sheep Movie. As I said, I’m not up on my animation this year, so don’t rely too strongest on these predictions.

Current predictions:
Anomalisa
The Good Dinosaur
Inside Out
Minions
The Peanuts Movie
