Golden Globe Nominees: Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical

My predictions: 4/5, missing Roberts
Who’s missing: Amy Adams (Julie & Julia)

This category officially boasts the biggest surprise of the Golden Globes this year: Julia Roberts (Duplicity). Personally, I’m thrilled since I loved the film and, though I wish Clive Owen was nominated also, Roberts did a great job and had a lot of fun. It’s exactly what this category calls for. Both Sandra Bullock (The Proposal) and Meryl Streep (It’s Complicated and Julie & Julia) are double nominees this year, with Bullock earning a nomination in the corresponding drama category as well. And then there’s Marion Cotillard (Nine), who won this category two years ago for “La Vie en Rose” and whose film did well with the Globes this year, earning the second-most nominations of any film. This is certainly a fun category.

Who could win? Keep in mind that two nominations in one category doesn’t mean that a performer can’t win, so I think that Meryl Streep will clinch it for her portrayal of Julia Child.
What does this mean for the Oscar race? Zilch. Streep is still in for “Julie & Julia,” while Cotillard probably still won’t get nominated.

So Avatar was nominated for Best Picture? I don't think "best special effects" necessarily means that same thing as Best Picture
