SAG Predictions: Best Ensemble in a Motion Picture

Last year’s nominees:
THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON
DOUBT
FROST/NIXON
MILK
SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

To start with, musicals always do well here, so count Nine in even if individual performers aren’t as safe. Next, look to breakout groups, like The Hurt Locker, enormous talent gathered together, like The Last Station, and just plain skilled actors working in tandem, like Up in the Air. The highly-hyped Precious may break through here, and A Serious Man could also. I’d look instead to two very entertaining films to fill slots: An Education and
Inglorious Basterds
. While I’d love to see it happen, I don’t think the cast of A Single Man will be nominated.

Predicted nominees:
AN EDUCATION
THE HURT LOCKER
INGLORIOUS BASTERDS
NINE
UP IN THE AIR

Final predictions will be offered on Wednesday, December 16th, after Golden Globe nominees are revealed. SAG nominations will be announced on Thursday, December 17th, and come back to Movies with Abe for a detailed look at each race.
