Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical

The competition: Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Into the Woods, Pride, St. Vincent

For your information: Both “Birdman” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” are nominated for Best Director. “Birdman” leads with seven nominations. “The Grand Budapest Hotel” has four, “Into the Woods” has three, “St. Vincent” has two, and this is it for “Pride.” Last year’s winner was “American Hustle.” It should be noted that musicals tend to do very well in this category, with “Sweeney Todd” beating “Juno,” “Dreamgirls” beating “Little Miss Sunshine,” and “Evita” beating “Fargo” and “Jerry Maguire,” most notably.

Who should win? I loved “Birdman” but I also really liked “Pride.” I enjoyed “St. Vincent” a lot, and “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” though far from my favorite Wes Anderson film, was pretty decent. “Into the Woods” was fine, but not quite on par with the likes of “Chicago” for a win in this category.

Who will win? Let’s assume that a love for musicals gives Into the Woods the edge over Oscar sure thing “Birdman.”
