SAG Nominees: Best Actor in a Leading Role

My predictions: 4/5, missing Whitaker
Who’s missing: Robert Redford (All is Lost)

Alphabetically, this category was doing fine, but then the last nominee was Forest Whitaker (The Butler) instead of Robert Redford. I’m personally fine with the omission, though I wouldn’t necessarily put Whitaker in over him. I assume this won’t mean anything for Redford’s Oscar chances, but it’s not a good sign, and “The Butler” got a huge boost from this nomination. Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips) and Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) are probably ecstatic with unexpected extra nominations for their films, while Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Bruce Dern (Nebraska) have expected company. Redford not being here is shocking, but otherwise, this isn’t much of a surprise.

Who could win? Without Redford, I think it’s anyone’s game, but my guess would be McConaughey.
