SAG Predictions: Best Ensemble in a Motion Picture

For the second year in a row, the Screen Actors Guild announces its picks one day before Golden Globe nominations are revealed, which makes it considerably tougher to predict the nominees without that helpful handicap of knowing ten likely contenders beforehand. Without knowing all that much, here are my best guesses for SAG’s five inclusions in this category. Check back on Wednesday for detailed reactions by category.

Last year’s nominees:
The Artist
Bridesmaids
The Descendants
The Help
Midnight in Paris

This category never quite aligns with the Best Picture race, but at this point, the contenders come from the same place. Les Miserables is a sure bet, and the very populated ensembles of Argo and Lincoln are likely too. Silver Linings Playbook has a good shot, and after that, it’s anyone’s guess. The Master is a strong choice, and Django Unchained would make sense too if the film is well-received. Moonrise Kingdom would be a fun selection, and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is exactly the kind of film that SAG voters love.

Predicted nominees:
Argo
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Lincoln
Les Miserables
Silver Linings Playbook
