Oscar Nominees: Best Sound

The nominees: Ad Astra, Ford v Ferrari, Joker, 1917, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

I haven’t seen one of these nominees - Ad Astra - which I had discounted after it failed to make the finalist list for Best Visual Effects. I look forward to watching it soon and listening closely. Joker and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood are the Best Picture nominees that got in here over other possibilities like “The Irishman” and “Parasite,” joining the other top nominee, 1917, that was expected here. Rounding out the list is another Best Picture nominee, Ford v Ferrari, a perfectly solid choice in my mind. I thought “Rocketman” would be here, but it seriously underperformed today.

My current bet to win: I see this going to 1917.
